I've tried to be really fair with the kids about sharing. We let James know that his toys belong to him, and if he doesn't want May to play with them, that's fine. The result is that he is constantly offering her his toys. The same holds true for May's toys. They are hers. The result is that James asks her politely if he can borrow them, and then happily plays with them. "She said, 'sure!" he tells us. There are two toys in the house which are community toys. A train and the snowflake (pictured above.) On the first few days this was a really confusing concept for James and he kept taking them away from May. Now that he has the idea that the toys belong to both of them, things have settled down. My hope is that we are laying a good foundation for when they really do have communal property in the future, such as game systems and outdoor toys.
