Making pancakes on Saturday morning is one of James' and my favorite things to do. I hope that even with the joyful chaos of New Baby's arrival we will continue on with our weekend tradition. Pancake making is quite labor-intensive for James. First, he chooses a mixing bowl from the cabinet. Then, he is in charge of pouring the pancake mix and the milk into the bowl. Cracking the egg is a "mommy job." As is stirring, though he occasionally helps and he loves to taste the batter. While Mommy cooks the pancakes, James sets the breakfast table with a fork and knife for each family member. Although he has Peter Rabbit silverware that he insists on setting out, he prefers to eat his pancakes with his hands. Finally comes the reward, he chooses his syrup and we sit down to enjoy breakfast together. Usually around this time Daddy gets up (all week long he lets Mommy sleep in, so Saturday mornings are special for him, as well) and joins us.
