James and Mommy's Day of Fun V

On Saturday James and I returned to the zoo for "Sunrise Safari" - the zoo opens extra early for members and we can escape the midday summer heat. The first thing we did, of course, is ride the train. Then we went on to conquer the rest of the zoo. Here are some highlights. We watched a keeper clean out the bat cage for a good 20 minutes. The entire time she was spraying and scrubbing, bats were flying around her head. I'm sure glad I don't have her job.
Onto the playground: James decided to try the big cargo net. Climbing . . . .
still climbing . . .
almost there . . .
Victory!

James loved running across the rope bridge.
He also enjoyed putting his hand in the crocodile's mouth.
James did the elephant slide about 10 times.
After we finished up at the playground we moved onto the boardwalk to feed the ducks.
Taking a little rest.
James loves getting water from the lion drinking fountains.
Seeing how we measure up to an orangutan.
Riding the cheetah on the carousel.
The big cats were sleeping, so we had to settle for the statue.
The giraffe building gives us the opportunity to see the animals up close.
James making friends with a desert hare.

We had a snack of pretzel and lemonade before watching the bird show and heading out to lunch. All in all, an exhausting and fun trip!

Yeah, it's his new Packers hat. Daddy gave it to him for his half-birthday. Now they're "hat buddies."
