The Tracy Aviary has been under construction for such a long time! Although the work isn't yet complete, the kids and I just had to check out the progress so far.
The water birds were by far their favorite. They kept pointing out birds that they wanted me to take pictures of.
Of course playing games in the amphitheater was also a lot of fun.
We went early enough in the season that there were still plenty of flowers in bloom.
James had a great time using his long legs to jump along the stump path.
The kids spent quite a while playing in the Owl Woods club house.
Then it was bird show time. James was chosen as a volunteer for this bird, whose name I forget but it had an awesome red mo-hawk.
The trainer seemed really nervous about letting James volunteer, and kept reminding him not to drop his arm as our little winged rocker friend had been dropped in the past by young helpers.
But James did a stand-up job, even when the bird's sharp toenails left marks on his arm.
We ended with a trip to the flamingos, which May was really looking forward to. "I want to see the flamingos - they are PINK!" she said to me. Unfortunately, she was expecting hot pink birds, not the pale pink ones we found. Still, it was a great trip and we had a lot of fun exploring.
