We're a Camping Family Now

A few weeks ago Chad and I made a very exciting purchase - a tent trailer!  You know, one of those cute little boxes that pops up into a camper?  This weekend was our maiden voyage.

After researching online about car trips and kids, I made the kids some lap desks from old material and dollar store cookie sheets.  They could then stick metal baskets of toys or magnets to it.  It was quite the hit and made for a stress-free drive.

We decided to play it safe and stay at a KOA for our first night.  This one is south of Brigham City.
Although it was chilly and raining it was cozy in our little camper.  We had dinner first.
Then it was time for s'mores!  As it was too rainy and windy for a campfire, we made do with a scented candle.

Then of course we had to play some games.  Go Fish was our favorite.

Here's May all tucked in under her electric blanket and ready for bed.
I couldn't keep this kid under his blankets at all, he kept saying he was too hot.
After a restless but pleasant night (the kids got up to go potty, there was noise from the storm and other campers, but the kids were champs about staying in bed) we got up at the crack of dawn to play on the playground.

As we waited for the sun to rise we played even more games.
Then we took a short drive over to Willard Bay to explore the shores of the Great Salt Lake and poke around the nature trails.
Soon we were hungry and it was time to go back to our campsite for lunch.
After breaking camp we drove down to Ogden to play at the Hill Air Museum.

Then to the Eccles Dinosaur Park.

Besides the dinosaurs they also had weird Halloween decorations up.  Like this mutant bear eating a skeleton.
May was charmed by the baby Pteranadons.
Upstairs were these crazy robotic dinosaurs.

So all in all, a very successful trip.  Although we came home sleepy and physically drained, we came home happy and with plans to camp again soon.
